Campus Solution

Because of the vast number of Windows based computers that connect to USU's network there is a need to have a local solution to providing updates for Windows. The significant advantage of using USU's service for computers located on campus is SPEED. All of the Windows Updates are stored locally. This means your computer will not suffer from the latency of connecting to an update service located elsewhere. In addition to this benefit, there are other advantages related to ease and effectiveness of maintaining a reliable and secure campus network that can be realized from having a local updating service available. To get updates from USU there are 2 options.

  • Use the default recommended settings that will connect you to wsus.ss.usu.edu to receive Windows Updates.

With this option, you simply need to download the windows registry file(extension .reg) and run it on the computer you are applying the settings to. The computer should then be restarted for the changes to take effect. Click here to download the file
